We decided to go on an adventure today, so we headed over to Pamlico Sound, which was just up the road from where our house is located. Pamlico Sound is the largest lagoon on the East Coast, and is a body of water separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Outer Banks. The inlet area is known for its shallow water and increased water temperatures, so we were excited to do some swimming. We were surprised when we got there though. The sound is a little more "preserved" and you have to walk a ways into the water just to get away from all of the shells cutting into your feet. We had a fun time anyways; playing around in the water, walking up and down the shore and searching for shells.
Miss Hollywood...walking the boardwalk.
We all had a good time just playing in the water,
getting our toes wet!
Hadley and I tried to venture out into the water, but there were a lot of shells to get past.
As you can see, we didn't make it very far.
Lex, Julianna and Gabe searched for seashells. They got quite a few really neat ones to take home with them...
a treasure from the sound!
More seashell searching above.
Dad got in on the action this time.
Uncle Zeb and Gabe walked way up the shore in search of seashells.
Knee deep in the water somewhere...
The girls had a fun time chasing each other and playing in the sand and terrain.
I love this picture...and no it's not posed. I caught them as they were looking out in the water at some windsurfers. The sound seemed like the perfect place for that, because it's shallow for miles out and there's still enough wind for the sails.
Hadley had fun splashing in the water. I had to carry her out past the shells, but once we got out there, she enjoyed kicking around the warm water. Austin caught a pretty cool video of her splashing too!
There were little fish swimming around near shore while we were there. Grandpa, Gabe and Juli spent some time checking out the water in search of them.
When we got back to the house, we all headed upstairs to relax for a little bit. Aunt Melissa, the artist in the family, helped the kids color in their coloring books while relaxing on the floor.
...and then we had some more Wii action!
After we all got done relaxing, we headed back out to swim for a little bit. Who can resist a warm pool?
Hadley loves that lobster float, I tell ya!
I love this picture of daddy and daughter sharing a laugh!
I got a new camera for Mother's Day, and I still don't know all of the settings. In the next few pictures, we were trying out the "smile" mode. Turns out the camera really will just snap a picture when it detects a smile! Who knew?
While we were preparing for dinner, a thunderstorm blew in. I just happened to capture the picture below of the lightening bolt in the sky. Aunt Melissa captured one with her camera first, and I thought it was pretty cool, so I was determined to get one of my own. It only took me a few minutes. Poor Lex tried and tried and never got one on her camera.
Karen made homemade fettuccine alfredo for dinner tonight and it was phenomenal! This was the first meal that we all got to sit down at the dining room table and enjoy together so far this week. It was so nice to sit over good food and chat it up.
Dad's missing above, because he took the picture. I took the one below, so I would have one with him in it. After all, he's the reason we are all able to enjoy a wonderful family dinner together!
...and of course, the kids had to do some more jumping!
The kids were grape eating fools today. We may need to head back to the grocery for some more fruit!
What a fun day spent with my family! It may not seem like we've done much so far, but the relaxing and hanging out is really what it's all about, and I love it! We have a fun day planned for tomorrow, so we had better get some sleep...but only after a little hot tub time now that Hadley's asleep.
Thanks for another great day OBX, Good Night!
Yeah, the hot tub time was the best. A great time to spend with my brothers and sister. Too bad those two other ones couldn't join us, party poopers. :)
